MEDIA & CONTENT

Explore Dave Meadows BBQ through media appearances, podcast conversations and social media, sharing stories, experiences and a passion for BBQ and community.

Throughout the Smoke & Soul Project, I had the opportunity to share our journey through a series of radio interviews with ABC Radio and Adelaide’s 5AA. From the early conversations about the idea behind the project and what we hoped to achieve, to updates from the road as we travelled across Australia, these interviews captured the experiences, challenges and incredible people we met along the way.

After returning home, the conversations continued as I reflected on the journey, the lessons learned and the impact of bringing people together through BBQ. These interviews tell the story of Smoke & Soul from beginning to end, and how something as simple as sharing a meal can create meaningful connections and make a difference.

Something that makes these interviews particularly meaningful to me is the fact that I've lived with a stutter for all of my life. Public speaking, radio interviews and putting myself out there haven't always come naturally to me. There have been plenty of moments where I've struggled to get my words out, worried about how I might sound or questioned whether I could confidently share my story. So, when I look back at these interviews, I don't just hear conversations about the Smoke & Soul Project. I hear someone who pushed himself well outside his comfort zone, faced something that has challenged him for years and refused to let it stand in the way of something he believed in.

I'm genuinely proud of myself for doing these interviews. Not because every word came out perfectly, because it certainly didn't, but because I showed up and gave it a go anyway. Each conversation was another opportunity to build my confidence, embrace my stutter and realise that what I had to say was far more important than how I said it. The Smoke & Soul Project taught me so much about people, kindness and connection, but it also taught me a great deal about myself. And if there's one thing I've taken from this experience, it's that you don't need to speak perfectly to have a voice worth listening to.
